Be Grateful for the Damn Glass!

Half water glassI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it’s not about whether the glass is half-full or half-empty, it’s about learning to be grateful for the damn glass!

So what does that mean? It means that whether or not I feel the circumstance is positive or negative I’m grateful for the circumstance.

Does it come automatically? At this point in my life, most times yes.

Was it always this way? Of course not! Like any other practice, I had to practice.

Are there times in my life that I want to flail my arms, stomp my feet, bitching about how “Unfair life truly is!” But do I? A good 99% of the time, I do not. It doesn’t do any good. It’s never been known to change the circumstances.

For that 1% of the time that I do, it’s a very short rant. It only makes my mood worse. It creates an energy that begins a negative downward spiral, and things inevitably start going from bad to worse. Frankly, I don’t like how I feel when I’m caught up in that negative energy (that comes from having consistently practiced being grateful for the circumstances – the damn glass!)

Next time you’re inclined to start thinking about the glass as half empty, remember to be grateful for the glass.
