What Bugged Me Today

Bee on flowersWhile walking down the side of the house to take the kitchen trash out, I stepped on a bee. I didn’t mean to. I didn’t see her. If I had, trust me, I would have avoided her. In the course of my lifetime I have been stung in the middle of my back, on the tip of my finger, on the tip of my toe, on my elbow and now in the center of my foot.

Each and every one of these experiences was quite painful and treated with a different home remedy. Some of them worked rather quickly and some of them provided no relief for me whatsoever.

This most recent experience was treated with the application of Young Living essential oils and seemed to have the fastest healing time and pain relief. On removing the stinger I applied lavender oil and purification oil, and within moments the pain and redness subsided.

As is the case in all home remedies, what works for one person may not work for another. So use your discretion the next time you’re faced with a bee sting. Here are some of the remedies I’ve used over the years for stings and bites:

  • Meat tenderizer and water made into a paste
  • Baking soda and water made into a paste
  • A cold teabag
  • A slice of onion
  • Essential oils

Of course it’s always better if you can just simply avoid being on the business end of the stinger in the first place.

If you know of any other home remedies for stings or bites, we’d love to hear about them.
