Sweet Olive — I Hate to Love You
While I have many fragrant trees, flowers and shrubs in my yard, my current favorite is currently my problem.
Sweet Olive is a shrub with an insignificant bloom to look at, and yet the fragrance is HEAVENLY. The fragrance is a cross between ripe peaches and orange blossom.
But this is the culprit that is causing my allergies to flare up. In retaliation I will gladly up my Neti Pot regimen and brew a cup of white tea with dried sweet olive blooms.
Osmanthus fragrans, also known as the tea olive plant, Sweet or Tea Olive Plant is native to Asia, and the flowers have been harvested and dried for centuries. You can often find Chinese tea with the prefix Gui Hua which denotes that the tea leaves have been infused with sweet osmanthus.
